Most of us have our standard personal care routine that we do without thinking before bed. Some routines may include a nightly bath, slipping into our favorite socks or slippers, washing your face with that special cleanser and applying a nightly serum.
Some may have a more 'simplistic' face wash routine like a quick rinse, facial pad, pillowcase and moisturizer. Routines can give people a sense of accomplishment and peace in a busy world.
But what happens on a long, busy day? It's easy to have that motivation to ditch the routine and head straight to the sheets. But is that really a good idea?
In this blog, I’m going to share with you six reasons you should always wash your face before bed.
1. Washing The Skin Helps Remove Impurities
Your face accumulates dirt, bacteria, pollutants, and other impurities throughout the day. Washing your face removes these impurities and prevents them from clogging your pores overnight. It also prevents your pillowcase build-up from accumulating these impurities.
2. It Can Help Prevent Acne
Washing your face helps prevent acne breakouts by keeping your pores clear of excess oil and dead skin cells. If you choose to not wash your face the skin can react by excreting out all of the toxins in the form of acne. Remember, your skin is an organ and it acts as a defense against toxins.
3. Washing The Face Will Aid In Skin Repair
Your skin cells regenerate more rapidly while you sleep, and washing your face before bed helps remove any barriers that may prevent moisture from penetrating the skin. Washing the skin can free the skin from excessive product build-up and obstructions that can hinder its natural functions.
4. Clean Skin Improves Absorption Of Skincare Products
Washing your face before bed allows your skin to better absorb moisture and nutrients from cosmetic products. This means your products won't have an oily skin barrier to work through and may help them work better.
5. It Can Reduce Signs Of Aging
Washing your face before bed can help reduce the signs of aging by gently exfoliating the surface of the skin. Furthermore, moisturizing after washing your face helps to stimulate blood circulation and new cell regeneration. It can also improve the appearance of pore size!
6. It Will Allow Your Skin To Breathe
This one is pretty simple. Washing your face before bed allows your skin to breathe freely during the night. While skin doesn't actually 'breathe' in the traditional sense, washing your face allows it to function optimally and feel better.
End Your Day with a Clean, Fresh Face!
Your face endures a lot during the day—from touching, eating, and exposure to environmental stressors. Ending your day with a clean face not only improves your skin's health but also feels refreshing and rewarding.
Even on busy nights, keep it simple: a quick cleanse, toner, and moisturizer. But remember, skipping this step is never worth it!
